Planning a Jewel Box Wedding? Here’s What Makes This St. Louis Greenhouse So Special
If you’re dreaming of a light-filled, plant-covered space to say your vows, a Jewel Box wedding in Forest Park might be exactly what you’ve been searching for. This historic greenhouse in the heart of St. Louis is one of the city’s most unique venues, a glass and steel conservatory filled with tropical palms, soft light, and timeless beauty! It’s a ceremony space that feels both grand and intimate, polished yet naturally beautiful. Whether you’re going for classic, modern, or something totally your own, The Jewel Box is a space that adapts and elevates whatever you bring into it!
First, What Is The Jewel Box?
The Jewel Box is a city-owned greenhouse tucked inside Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in the U.S. The building itself dates back to the 1930s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but it’s been beautifully restored and kept up ever since! With 50-foot glass walls, art deco details, and lush greenery year-round, it’s a popular spot for weddings, elopements, and events. It’s available to rent through the City of St. Louis Parks Department, with options for morning and afternoon ceremonies.
Why Couples Love a Jewel Box Wedding
The biggest reason couples book this space? That incredible light! Because it’s a full greenhouse, the interior glows in natural light from every angle. Even on a cloudy day, you’ll get that soft, romantic atmosphere photographers love. It’s a built-in backdrop, no extra florals or décor needed (unless you want to add some!). The tall palms and tropical plants stay green all year long, so winter weddings here still feel lush and inviting. Plus, the climate control means you’re not relying on good weather, your day will be comfortable and beautiful no matter the season!
What the Ceremony Space Looks Like
Ceremonies typically take place down the center of the main greenhouse hall, with a white aisle runner and guest seating on either side. At the far end is a large greenery wall that acts as a natural altar, it’s the most popular spot to set up your vow exchange. Couples often keep things simple, using floral pillars or arrangements near the front and letting the architecture and plants shine. There’s room for musicians, so you can have a live music during your ceremony!
Where to Take Portraits at The Jewel Box
One of the best perks of having a Jewel Box wedding is that you don’t need to leave for portraits. The interior is already stunning, with clean lines, tall palms, and glowy glass ceilings that photograph beautifully. Step just outside, and you’re in Forest Park, which means tree-lined paths, historic stone steps, and quiet little corners for couple or family photos. Everything is within walking distance, so there’s no need to stress about travel or timeline gaps!
