Hannah & Kayla’s day at Sunset Bluffs was the perfect mix of colorful, modern, and completely them, the kind of celebration that makes you smile the entire time you’re photographing it. For this LGBTQ St. Louis Wedding, the two brides leaned into bold tones, soft neutrals, and that beach-y quarry backdrop that Sunset Bluffs is so loved for. Everything felt bright, thoughtful, and so full of joy, from the details to the sunset portraits!

Getting Ready at Sunset Bluffs

The morning was relaxed and fun, with Hannah and Kayla getting ready surrounded by their closest people. Their color palette came through right away, fresh whites, soft greens, and pops of gold tying their details together beautifully. The sunlight on the balcony gave us the dreamiest glow for champagne toasts, and everyone was full of that excited, pre-ceremony energy. It was such a natural way to ease into the day while letting the venue shine in the background.

First Look & Portraits for an LGBTQ St. Louis Wedding

The first look overlooking the turquoise water at Sunset Bluffs felt straight out of a destination wedding. The crisp tux, the classic gown, the movement of the veil, everything came together so effortlessly. The color of the water made the perfect backdrop for their portraits, and you could feel their nerves instantly melt into excitement. These two are such naturals together, and the photos by the water captured that soft, modern vibe they envisioned!

Colorful Wedding Party Vibes

One of my favorite parts of the day was their multicolored wedding party palette. Each person wore a different shade, greens, blues, yellows, oranges, and somehow it all worked perfectly. It matched Sunset Bluffs’ natural tones and added so much personality to every group photo. It felt playful, elevated, and intentional without being too “matchy,” which is exactly what Hannah & Kayla wanted. Truly the happiest-looking group!

Ceremony at Sunset Bluffs

The ceremony setup by the water was simple, modern, and gorgeous. The white pergola draped with soft green fabric created a subtle focal point without distracting from the cliffs and lake behind them. Guests gathered in a semicircle, and the late-afternoon sunlight gave everything that warm, golden look you always hope for. Watching Hannah & Kayla exchange vows with the cliffs rising behind them was one of the most beautiful, quiet moments of the day.

Sunset Portraits on the Rocks

Right after the ceremony, we wandered down to the shoreline for golden hour, and the light could not have been better. The water turned glassy and warm, and these two were glowing, both from the sun and that just-married energy. Their portraits on the rocks are some of my favorites from the whole day. Simple, intimate, and so full of color in the best way!

A Modern Reception Detail: The High Bar

One fun detail that guests loved was their “high bar,” stocked with gummies and joints, such a unique way to bring their personalities into the night. It fit right in with the relaxed, modern vibe of their wedding and gave guests something memorable to enjoy. Sunset Bluffs really lends itself to these kinds of creative touches, and this one was such a hit. Their cake-cutting was the perfect nod to their colorful day, a classic white cake on the outside with a full rainbow surprise inside. It was sweet, fun, and an easy favorite detail. The photos of them sharing that first bite feel like such a fitting celebration for the joy and pride surrounding their wedding.
