If you’ve been dreaming about a colorful wedding in St. Louis, I’m here to tell you… do it. Seriously! There’s just something about bold florals, fun color palettes, and playful details that brings so much life into a wedding day. And after photographing so many weddings around St. Louis, I can confidently say that colorful weddings always stand out in the best way. They feel joyful, intentional, and honestly just way more you!

A colorful wedding in St. Louis is perfect if you want your day to feel fun, vibrant, and full of personality instead of super traditional or neutral. Whether you’re getting married at a garden venue, a modern space, or somewhere downtown, color adds so much energy to every part of the day. What I love most is how color completely changes the vibe of your photos. Bright florals, bold bridesmaid dresses, and even colorful tablescapes instantly make everything feel more alive. It also gives you so much room to get creative and make your wedding feel unique instead of following the same neutral trends you see everywhere!

When planning a colorful wedding in St. Louis, your color palette is where everything starts. This doesn’t mean you need to go full rainbow (unless you want to, which I fully support), but having a mix of intentional colors that work together is key.
Some of my favorite combinations I’ve seen:
The biggest tip here is to not overthink it. Pick colors you genuinely love, and then build everything else around that. When it feels natural to you, it always photographs better too!

This is where everything really comes to life. A colorful wedding isn’t just about your flowers, it’s in the little details too. Think about things like your invitation suite, your shoes, your signage, your cake, and even your getting ready details. I’ve seen everything from floral-patterned keepsake boxes to bold stationery with fun typography, and it all adds up to create a cohesive, colorful story. One of my favorite things is when couples carry color throughout the entire day, from getting ready details to reception decor. It makes your gallery feel super intentional and tied together instead of random.

This is one of the easiest ways to make your wedding feel colorful right away. Instead of having everyone in the same dress, mixing colors or shades can create such a fun, effortless look. I love when each bridesmaid wears a different color within the same palette, like a mix of blues, greens, oranges, or pinks. It feels modern, relaxed, and honestly just way more interesting visually. You can also bring color into the wedding party through ties, pocket squares, or even unique textures and fabrics. It doesn’t have to be over the top, just intentional!

Florals are usually the star of a colorful wedding in St. Louis, and for good reason. This is where you can really go all in. Think bright peonies, garden roses, dahlias, all layered together in a way that feels full and organic. I’ve seen ceremonies with bold floral arches, colorful aisle arrangements, and bouquets that literally steal the show. If you’re working with a florist, don’t be afraid to tell them you want something bold. Show them inspiration, but also give them creative freedom. Some of the best designs I’ve seen came from couples trusting their vendors to run with the vision.

Your reception is another chance to lean into color in a way that feels elevated and intentional. This doesn’t mean everything has to be bright, you can mix neutrals with pops of color to keep things balanced.
Some ideas I’ve loved:
This is also where lighting plays a huge role. Warm candlelight mixed with colorful florals creates such a cozy but vibrant atmosphere, especially for indoor venues in St. Louis!

At the end of the day, planning a colorful wedding in St. Louis is really about leaning into what feels like you. If you’re drawn to bold colors, fun details, and a more playful vibe, don’t hold back. Some of my favorite weddings have been the ones where couples fully embraced their style. Whether that’s a bright floral cake, a rainbow dress moment, or just adding color in small intentional ways, it all makes your day feel more personal and memorable.
