Where to Take Engagement Photos in St. Louis: 4 Iconic Locations for Couples

If you’re trying to figure out where to take your engagement photos in St. Louis, there are honestly so many great spots around the city. St. Louis has this perfect mix of historic architecture, beautiful parks, and iconic views, which makes it such a fun place for engagement sessions. The hardest part is usually just narrowing down which location fits your vibe the best.

Over the years I’ve photographed engagement sessions all over the city, and there are a few locations I always recommend to couples because they photograph beautifully and give you a lot of variety in one place. Whether you’re going for something elegant, romantic, nature-inspired, or classic St. Louis views, these spots are some of my favorites for engagement photos in St. Louis!

Central Library: Elegant Engagement Photos in St. Louis

The St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library downtown is one of the most stunning places in the city for engagement photos. The building was originally built in 1912, and the architecture alone makes it worth considering for your session. Inside, you’ll find grand staircases, marble columns, beautiful archways, and dramatic lighting that gives photos a really timeless feel. If you love photos that feel a little more editorial or elegant, this location is perfect. The architecture does a lot of the work for you because every corner feels like a great backdrop. The outside of the building is just as beautiful too. The large stone steps and historic details make for really classic city photos that still feel clean and simple.

Helpful tips if you’re considering this location:

  • The library is located at 1301 Olive Street in downtown St. Louis.
  • Be sure to check hours or guidelines if you want interior photos.
  • Dressier outfits tend to photograph really well here because the space feels very upscale.
  • Weekdays are usually quieter if you want fewer people around.

If you’re drawn to historic architecture and timeless city vibes, the Central Library is easily one of the best locations for engagement photos in St. Louis!

Tower Grove Park: A Go-To Spot for Engagement Photos in St. Louis

Tower Grove Park is one of the most popular locations for engagement photos in St. Louis, and honestly it’s easy to see why. The park has so much variety, which makes it really fun for sessions. You’ll find huge trees, beautiful walking paths, historic Victorian pavilions, open green spaces, and seasonal flowers depending on the time of year. It’s one of those locations where you can walk around for an hour and still keep finding new spots that look great in photos. This location works really well whether you want something romantic and dressed up or something a little more relaxed and casual. The greenery makes everything feel soft and natural.

Helpful tips for sessions here:

  • Tower Grove Park is located at 4257 Northeast Drive in St. Louis.
  • Spring and fall are especially beautiful because of the flowers and fall colors.
  • Golden hour light through the trees is amazing here.
  • The park is large enough that you can usually find quieter spots even when it’s busy.

If you want engagement photos that feel romantic and full of greenery, Tower Grove Park is always a great choice.

Forest Park Art Hill & Grand Basin: Perfect For Classic Photos

If you want engagement photos in St. Louis that instantly feel iconic to the city, Art Hill and the Grand Basin in Forest Park are hard to beat. The Art Museum sitting at the top of the hill creates such a dramatic backdrop, and the Grand Basin below reflects the sky and the architecture in a really beautiful way. The steps leading up to the museum also create great layers in photos, which adds a little extra visual interest. Another reason this area works so well for engagement sessions is how much variety you can get within walking distance. You can shoot by the water, on the steps, along the pathways around the basin, or up on the hill overlooking the park.

Helpful tips for photos here:

  • Forest Park is located at 5595 Grand Drive in St. Louis.
  • Sunset sessions are especially beautiful here.
  • Comfortable shoes are helpful since there’s a bit of walking and stairs involved.
  • Weekdays tend to be quieter than weekends.

If you want engagement photos that feel very “St. Louis,” this location is always a classic.

Lafayette Park: Perfect For Romantic Photos

Lafayette Park is one of the most beautiful locations for engagement photos in St. Louis. Compared to some of the bigger parks in the city, it feels a little quieter and more intimate. The park has beautiful landscaping, a small lake, beautiful  bridges, and lots of greenery that gives the whole place a really romantic garden vibe. It’s the kind of location that feels cozy and peaceful, which can make sessions feel really relaxed. Another fun thing about Lafayette Park is the surrounding neighborhood. Lafayette Square is filled with colorful historic homes that can add some really unique backdrops to your session if you want to walk around a bit.

Helpful tips for sessions here:

  • Lafayette Park is located at 2023 Lafayette Avenue in St. Louis.
  • The lake and bridge area make a beautiful focal point for photos.
  • Spring and early summer are especially pretty when flowers are blooming.
